Social – Cultural History 🌿 Geographical Features Neezhoor Grama Panchayat is a region that preserves the antiquity and rural heritage of Kerala. Situated in the northern part of Kottayam district, bordering Ernakulam district, Neezhoor Grama Panchayat is a terrain rich in streams and paddy fields. It is bounded on the north by Elanji Panchayat, on the south by Kaduthuruthy and Kuravilangad Panchayats, on the west by Mulakkulam and Kaduthuruthy Panchayats, and on the east by Marangattupilly and Uzhavoor Panchayats. Neezhoor Panchayat came into existence on August 15, 1953, incorporating the karas (localities) of Neezhoor, Kattampack, Thiruvanvady Pazhuthuruthu, Marangoly, and Kanjiramattom, which were previously included in the Kaduthuruthy village. 🏛️ Formation of the Panchayat Neezhoor Panchayat was formed on August 15, 1953, by combining the karas of Neezhoor, Kattampack, Thiruvanvady, Pazhuthuruthu, Marangoly, and Kanjiramattom, which were part of Kaduthuruthy village. The official inauguration of the panchayat was performed by the then Minister for Health, Hon. V. Madhavan. 🏢 Administrative Growth The first office of the panchayat began functioning in a building owned by Sri M. C. Pothan. Initially, there were 7 wards. In 1956, Kaduthuruthy village was divided into two, and the area comprising Neezhoor Panchayat began functioning as Neezhoor village. In 1963, the panchayat building was constructed on 15 cents of land donated by Sri M. C. Pothan. 📈 Development Activities For the development of the panchayat, Sri Cherian Thachettu freely donated 50 cents of land. The public market and community hall were established on this land. Building tax, professional tax, and license fees are the primary internal revenue sources of the panchayat. 🎓 Education and Cultural Sphere The College of Applied Science operating under IHRD is the sole higher education institution in the panchayat. Additionally, higher secondary schools, high schools, upper primary schools, lower primary schools, anganwadis, reading rooms, and cultural centers strengthen the educational and cultural landscape of the panchayat. 🏥 Health, Agriculture, and Social Development The Primary Health Centre, sub-centres, and Ayurvedic and Homoeo dispensaries are key institutions in the health sector. The Krishi Bhavan, veterinary dispensary, and dairy development services strengthen the agricultural and animal husbandry sectors. Neezhoor is a panchayat that demonstrates exemplary work in social harmony and infrastructure development.
